Conflict resolution tries to mitigate mass violence between or within countries. This involves governments, multilateral agencies like the United Nations, and non-governmental organizations. It goes by many names–conflict prevention, conflict resolution, conflict management, preventive action, preventive diplomacy, and so on. For the most part, these all convey the same idea: preventing conflict at an early stage is more humane, less costly, and more manageable than trying to cope with full-blown violence at a later time.
